I've been a Sweetgreen fan ever since I found them in NYC, by the Nomad Hotel.
It was a happy surprise when they contacted me mid-summer 2020 to be part of their Miami expansion plans. When I first spoke to the agency that scouted the art for them, the initial idea was to develop some prints for a different location.
While that idea was being brewed we moved to a more impactful collaboration after a conversation I had with Sweetgreen’s owner. She thought it’d be more interesting to develop a mural for the Sunset Harbour patio.
For this mural commission I dreamed up what the ideal representation of the Sunset Harbour lifestyle would be.
We informally call this area theFitness Districtof Miami Beach. It’s a small couple of blocks surrounded by water, boats, beautiful and fit people and all the sunshine you can dream of. A sandal-sporting spot made in heaven.
"Building healthier communities by connecting people to real food." - Sweetgreen's mission.
The art is based on a section of one of my paintings from last year, titled SUNBURN.
Its production took a year longer to get started than planned, due to the world changing event that needs no further naming.
I imported my usual color layering process to the walls, which kept my team and I working for almost two weeks on it, also in part to the mercurial sub-tropical weather of South Florida.
