Under the Sun

IS Projects, the Miami-based printmaking studio and gallery, is marking a major milestone this year as it celebrates the first anniversary of its new home.

To commemorate this occasion, IS Projects invited a select group of artists who have played a pivotal role in the studio's success to showcase their work. As a respected platform for emerging and established artists alike, IS Projects has been instrumental in raising the profile of printmaking as a contemporary art form.

From playful interpretations of the great outdoors to poignant reflections on the human condition, UNDER THE SUN promises to be a rich tapestry of contemporary printmaking techniques. What sets this exhibition apart is the sense of freedom afforded to the artists, who have been given free reign to interpret the project's title and create prints that connect to their broader studio practice.

Varied edition of prints by Miami artist Johanna Boccardo

Varied edition of 45 works.

Johanna's series presents a striking fusion of retro-futurism, urban development, and the aesthetics of 1980s video games. Inspired by visions of a self-sustaining future metropolis, she has created a varied edition of 45 "Clouds of urban dreams" screen-printed works. Each one brims with her signature style and vibrant energy found in the original colored pencil layer the artists has added to each print.

The images are part of a bigger scale plan for self-sustained urban development in Miami. "Clouds of urban dreams" offer a tantalizing glimpse into a future that is both exciting and achievable.

Under the Sun exhibition will be on view at Studio 18 in Pembroke Pines.

July 28 - September 23, 2023.
